Lawn mower maintenance

With a little mower maintenance, you'll have a mower that keeps performing well over the years. Follow our checklist and you'll have the best chance of keeping your mower in good shape. 

Spring maintenance

  • Clean the mower on top and bottom
  • Clean or replace the air filter
  • Change the oil and oil filter
  • Change the spark plug
  • Sharpen or replace the blades, keep them sharp and balanced
  • Grease and lubricate controls, fittings etc
  • Charge the battery (if there is one)
  • Fill her up with fresh fuel

Before each mowing

  • Check the oil and fuel level
  • Check tires

After each mowing

  • Clean the cutter section from grass and clippings

Regularly over the season

  • Clean or change air filters
  • Lubricate or grease if needed
  • Sharpen and balance blades (after 8-10 mowings)
  • Check all visible moving parts

Before winter

  • Drain the fuel, if possible
  • Clean from dirt, grass cuttings and debris
  • Lubricate and grease
  • Store the mower in a dry, ventilated area
